It only took two weeks and the besting of 8,772 other players for Jamie Gold to walk away with the World Series of Poker $10,000 buy-in grand prize.
He used aggressive play to enhance his chance of winning $12 million and the WSOP bracelet, which this year features 170 handpicked, full-cut diamonds.
Gold's impressive run and his final table dominance required a high level of both skill and luck, but I'm wondering if riches suggested by his surname wasn't the last straw for his opponents. Along with Chris Moneymaker in 2003, this marks the second time in the last four years that the winner seemed almost preordained.
