It's not even clear that Harry will actually be killed in the final instalment of J.K. Rowling's massively popular series, but that not enough to stop some intrepid readers from gambling on who will do the deed.
Most of the early money has been for Professor Snape at 5/2 and Draco Malfoy at 6/1.' Others in the frame include Harry's oldest foe Lord Voldemort, red-hot favourite at 4/5, Ron Weasley at 6/1 and Hagrid at 25/1.
It's a little odd that people are willing to bet on the cause of a merely possible event in a fictional piece of writing, but proponents of reading have long held the opinion that anything that may encourage a child to pick up a book is positive. I'm not sure the same people would agree that anything that causes a child to develop a gambling addiction is quite as positive, but what else are kids to do while waiting the year for the new book to be released?
