One of the highlights of 2005's sporting year was courtesy of a man who wasn't even a professional athlete. As part of a Wendy's Kick for a Million promotion, Brian Diesbourg took home the big prize for launching a successful 50-yard field-goal after missing on tries from 20, 30, and 40 yards. It was these earlier misses that set the stage and built the tension for the dramatic final kick. I remember actually leaping off the couch to celebrate. Even more amazing than the result was that the event got me to watch a few minutes of a CFL football game.
Prizes for the contest are as follows:
20 Yards - $10,000 selloffvacations.com travel voucher30 Yards - $15,000 Best Buy shopping spree
40 Yards – 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche
50 Yards - $1,000,000 in a one-time payment
As a special bonus, this edition's million will be paid as a single lump-sum amount as opposed to the standard $2 per year for 500,000 years, or whatever companies do to devalue the cost of their actual payouts.
