The Riviera is playing host to the 15th Annual Gaming and Token Convention, where the clay chips "of old" are on sale and on display for those wishing to grab a piece of history.
Things such as a "Bugsy", which would be a chip that would have been used during Bugsy Siegel's heyday in the 40s are hot. Collectors have noted, "you never know who has touched a chip". As expected, old chips from casinos that were from the old days or not in existence are worth the most: Flamingo, El rancho, Frontier, Riviera, Sands, Dunes, etc.
Think it's just a "novelty" though? Check this out--last year a chip that was used at the Sahara during the 1950s went for---wait for it--70,000.
Makes you think that holding on to that chip instead of gambling it may be the better bet in the long run, eh?
