Study: 750K American Youth are problem gamblers

A recent study done showed that 2.1 percent of 2300+ respondents had a gambling problem, which when then extrapolated, show that an estimated 750,000 Americans would possibly be problem gamblers. The biggest nuance behind this is that this number comes from the youth of America. This is defined as those between 14 and 21, and is a shocking number to say the least.

Or is it? With the internet, access to gambling is at an all-time high, despite the internet gambling ban. In fact, with limited security measures all the way around, it's perhaps the easiest time as well to gamble--regardless of whatever virtual barriers seem to be in place. So to hear that the number of gamblers amongst American youth is this number isn't really something that is a huge surprise, but it certainly gives fuel to the fire for the internet gambling ban argument back and forth in favor of the "pro" banners.

Also not surprisingly, it found that with changes in life came more addicted gamblers, which includes situations where a person would get a full time job, change schools (either entering college or dropping out of schools), marriage, kids, etc. seemed to be huge factors in whether a person turned to gambling--and again, this is not a surprise because of the lure of dollar signs when dollars are needed for that "get rich quick" mentality that so many people have (there's a reason why people play the lottery day in and day out for years and years). What would actually surprise me is that if a study five years from now showed that number decreasing....it's a sad state of affairs, isn't it?
