Seminole tribe enjoying Hard Rock gambling success

The Seminole tribe of Florida, who has for years made its central income off of the gambling industry on their reservations, made a deal last year to purchase the Hard Rock Cafe International, and some people went "whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?"

But, lo and behold, it has once again made the gambling industry much more profitable for the Seminole Indian tribe. The tribe, which wanted to exploit the hugely known name of the Hard Rock Cafe, has parlayed this into a venture that has spawned 2 casino-hotels in Florida and has paid huge dividends. It has been noted that, "Casinos are money machines, and the Seminoles point out that, in their three-year affiliation with Hard Rock, casinos have played a big role in reversing a declining company's fortunes."

Many critics are balking at the idea of combining traditional commercial means with the almost "too easy" ways that the reservations can be used for gaming, citing that this is a marriage with dangerous implications on a large financial scale, and claiming that the autonomy of the reservations will be threatened intensely. Will this spurn more tribes to use mainstream methods to garner more income? Stay tuned!
