85 billion dollars. That's how big the gaming industry is these days. Where is the lion's share of the money? In none other than Nevada. However, even though this is true, Reno, Nevada, once known as "Little Vegas" is not reaping the benefits.
While Nevada has legalized gambling and Reno is still a great tourist attraction, according to gaming industry sources, the growth in Las Vegas tourism and the proliferation of tribal gaming in Northern and Southern California has hurt the Reno market overall.
The Reno area had experienced a growth of almost 3 percent annually prior to 2000. After that, however, Las Vegas took on an aggressive marketing approach to further exploit its already-famous premise, and breakthroughs in laws which allowed Indian tribes to set up shop just across the border has kept that number from getting even close to it for quite some time.
Well, I guess there's always bowling there, right?
