Problem Gambling Database Proposed

cover.jpg

Citing a situation where a gambler from the United Kingdom sued a bookmaker for allowing him to bet after he had told him not to let him, the RIGT (Responsibility in Gambling Trust) gambling charity has asked that a problem gambler database can be created to avoid this situation. In this, there would be a need for books to share a database of problem gamblers who have volunteered to be limited or barred from betting to be shared so that the books can basically blacklist them. This would prevent A) the gamblers from losing more money and therefore feeding their addiction and B) limit the liability that the books would have--like what happened in the lawsuit stated at the beginning of the post.

This is a wonderful idea and should be proposed not only in countries, specifically, but globally. In light of the fact of their being online gaming available 24-7 and the temptation being so ridiculously high because of this, it would be a win-win situation for there to be a worldwide database to protect everyone involved; especially when you consider that gambling has hit the mainstream and continues to rise in popularity, so will the number of problem gamblers.

I am sure the book won't be liable for the amount that the guy bet, but it certainly has shed some light on some of the needs of the bad side of gaming.
