For most people, winning the lottery is a chance to chase a dream or two. Quit that dead-end job, take a trip, buy a giant statue of yourself made out of swiss-cheese to decorate your lawn. But then there's Emma Cox and Luke Pittard.
A young couple working together in McDonald's won a £1.3m Lotto jackpot today - but pledged: "We'll carry on serving burgers."
You have to respect those who are in content to live a no-frills existence, but I can't help but feel that if I were to take home about $3 million CDN, I would use the liberty afforded me by affluence to aim a little higher than a day job at McDo's. I don't know the couple well enough to suggest a specific course of action, but how about opening up a little café, or maybe going back to school to get that MBA? There's a certain dignity that comes with an honest, low-wage job, but it's far exceeded by the pride one can take in saying "Work for McDonald's? Are you nuts?"
