Mayoral Wagers

homerdress.jpg It's always fun when the mayors of playoff cities get involved in the betting fervor and put themselves on the line the way us citizens do.

Dallas Mayor Laura Miller and her Phoenix counterpart -- Phil Gordon -- have wagered that if the opposing city's team wins the series, they will wear that teams' jersey during a city council meeting and buy the opposing city's firefighters and police officers breakfast.

Sure, as far as the shame scale goes, wearing the other team's jersey falls a little short of Homer and Ned mowing their lawns in the wives' best Sunday dresses, but the key part is that there is some loss of dignity. I guess I appreciate when public figures are able to stop taking themselves so seriously and are willing to partake in a friendly wager. Like when George W lost that hand of cards to Pat Buchanan at the Republican convention back in 2000 under penalty of having to use the "nucular" instead of "nuclear" throughout his entire presidency. Good times.
