Losing Your Mind (and Your Friend's Money)

stupid.jpgYou know you have a bit of a problem when you sneak onto your roommate's computer to gamble from his account. Best case scenario? You win, and prevailing upon the good nature of your roommate, hope that he forgives you enough for breaking into his system and risking his cash to give you a cut of the winnings.

Worst case? How about this:

Police said Riley told them he used his roommate's computer and account to log on to an online poker Web site and gambled away $5,700 in a few hours. Riley is charged with felony grand larceny. He was arraigned and released pending a later court appearance.

What's crazy is that some tool who was able to drop six grand in a few short hours fancied himself a good enough player to actually win enough to justify his crime. Here's a good example of an obvious disconnect from reality that will be fun for one to examine during a two-to-four year prison sentence.

It wasn't his betting account so presumably if he would have won how would he have even been paid the winnings?

Exactly. It would have been up to his roommate (the account owner) to say "well, you did break into my system and gamble with my money, but since it turned out so well, I guess I can't be mad at you. Here's $500."

    Or something along those lines.
