Kaplan remanded in Puerto Rico

Gary Kaplan, former BetonSports official, was told by a Puerto Rican judge that he is considered a major flight risk and refused any bail. Kaplan faces 22 counts of criminal indictment for fraud, racketeering, and conspiracy; Kaplan is now awaiting transfer to the US, where he will end up in St. Louis, Missouri, to face trial.

After 3 other officials were indicted in July 2006, one still remains at-large: Peter Wilson. Former CEO David Carruthers was arrested during an airport layover, and Norm Stinberg reportedly is in Costa Rica, though this remains unconfirmed.

The decision to remand Kaplan is not a surprise to anyone, considering he's been on the run for almost a year and also has virtually unlimited resources. It remains to be seen how the rest of the BetonSports situation will end up, but one thing is for sure: once it is complete, the repercussions will be heard throughout the entire betting world.
