Hurricane Bet Losses Mean Charity Wins

Red%20Cross.jpg Bowing to public condemnation, at least one of the gambling sites that allowed people to bet on hurricanes has now announced that they plan to do some good with the money taken in.

Online sportsbook wagerweb.com announced today it will donate all proceeds from hurricane betting to the American Red Cross.

Whether this is an exercise in philanthropy, a result of guilt, or just a cynical way to drum up publicity for other forms of betting available on the site, at least some people will benefit from others having lost their money. But since I'm a gambler living in an area where hurricanes don't happen, I'd benefit more from an arrangement that goes the other way. So how do I convince the recipients of especially generous post-natural disaster settlements to donate to a fund to reimburse people who tragically failed to secure insurance against a dealer blackjack?
