Canada's Via Rail is getting into the casino game. Sort of.
A summertime rail service from Toronto to Niagara Falls, Ont., includes what Via Rail bills as "Canada's first casino car."
Of course, I'm not sure you can actually call this a casino car when faced with the reality that there is no actual gambling going on. Instead, Via is offering a somewhat half-assed poker and blackjack school, taught by a professional dealer. It's a bit like introducing a "gourmet dining car" in which people have an opportunity to exchange recipes and discuss wonderful meals, but where no food is consumed. Fortunately, the casino car does incorporate some free wine samples, leaving riders to ponder why they didn't just name it the "lush-on-rails car".
