Casinos sued for gambling compulsion

gambling-casino.jpg

A former ex-lawyer has filed suit in US Federal court against six casinos, 5 in Atlantic City and 1 in Las Vegas, for "allowing" her to lose over 1 million dollars gambling. She is asking for 20 million in damages. Evidently, her suit claims that Arelia Margarita Taveras was gambling for days without eating or sleeping and that casino staffers had a duty of care to me.

She currently works in Minnesota at a call center.

Wow, that's certainly a drop in base pay. Former lawyer to customer service rep? Hmm...that's interesting. It's also interesting how losing 1 million dollars translates into 20 million in damages--now that's a mystery. Also, since when do other adults have responsibility to make sure other adults eat and sleep? Isn't that one of the definitions of being an ADULT is? I mean, heck, that should mean I can sit at work and crap my pants and say "hey, you have a duty to care for me, change my diapers".

Right?

I mean, this is a little far fetched in trying to parallel this--but COME ON. I know there are frivolous suits, but gambling addiction and compulsion is so broad in scope and who is responsible for what--the idea that the foundation of them owing her money is so much interpretive and really just--dumb--I can't wait to see what happens with this one. This is about as far out as they come. Give me a break.
