Books get hit hard by Super Bowl outcome

While some will laud the efforts of the Giants, Las Vegas and online books took a hard hit on the pocketbook when the Giants not only beat the line, they blew it away and won the game--which for those who bet the moneyline for the Giants, they cleaned house.

This is what the online gambling sites as well as sports betting casinos were mightily afraid of--especially in the highest bet game of the year. When the line opened at 14 points favoring the then 18-0 Patriots, it was to everyone's surprise when the serious betters started laying so much money down on the Giants to cover as the underdog that the line moved down a half point in the first 30 minutes--something unheard of in Super Bowl betting.

Even though the straight betters took the house for a ride, don't worry--the books and casinos did just fine on those who tried the wild and crazy proposition bets, where there were both sports and non-sporting bets that had high risk and high reward. Lucky for them, nothing really panned out in any flail swoop like the outcome of the game did.
