Back to the (NBA) Futures

After the 2007 season ended, the NBA futures were almost immediately announced as to where the experts thought the teams would be preliminarily placed for the upcoming season and their chances of winning the crown. Of course, several moves and trades later, we know who is left in the playoff, but let's take a look at the odds as to where they were, and secondly what the odds are now comparatively as to winning the NBA title:

Boston Celtics 75/1 EVEN
Los Angeles Lakers 30/1 EVEN
New Orleans Hornets 45/1 4/1
Detroit Pistons 15/1 4/1
San Antonio Spurs 4/1 7/1
Cleveland Cavaliers 10/1 15/1
Utah Jazz 15/1 35/1
Orlando Magic 40/1 100/1

It just goes to show that for the most part, the risk you take with even the ones that seem a shoo-in is a pretty big one overall. The only team that has a decent chance of taking it home that was closest to the best odds is Detroit, and Boston was a whopping 75 to 1. I am sure some Celtics fan somewhere will be screaming for joy if his team takes it all the way, which they very well may do.
