Australian Company Tabcorp Online Gambling profit up 25%

The gaming behemoth that is Tabcorp is still churning, still growing--to the tune of a 25% increase, as announced this week. The total figure for online gambling? 1.01 billion and counting.

Of that 1 billion dollar figure, 800 million plus was bet on racing (horse, harness and greyhound) and the rest was interspersed between Australian rules football, rugby, tennis, soccer, and golf. Why? Tabcorp chiefs have said it's all about speed--the speed of the internet.

There are 400,000 people that hold accounts with the gaming giant, 140K of which are internet accounts. And while this is something that may have not been an uber-surprise, anti-gambling groups are concerned that the trend could continue, which could mean many more issues with growing out of control and creating many more gambling addicts. One official has noted that "the internet is a seductive type of medium".

Tabcorp is counting on it.
