Apple vs Cisco: Handicapping the iPhone Battle

iphone.jpgApple Inc.'s introduction of their new iPhone may have kick-started its first campaign in the mobile phone war, but were they counting on a two-front battle? Already faced with the challenges of competing in a well-serviced market, Apple was unable to come to terms with Cisco systems on the use of the iPhone moniker, and now faces a legal battle just to hold onto their product's name.

Bodog has released their initial odds for victory:

• Will Apple Inc. (AAPL) stock close with a value of 110.00 or more by June 15th, 2007? (Yes: -140, No: EVEN)

• Will Cisco win their lawsuit against Apple Inc. over the "iPhone" trademark? (Yes: +500, No: -105)

• Will Apple Inc. be forced to change the name of the iPhone due to Cisco's trademark? (Yes: +500, No: -900)

The odds favour Cisco winning the lawsuit, but count me among those who think this will be settled amicably enough (with Apple keeping the name) before any verdict is read.
