American Idol 7 odds updated

And then there were three.

Although American Idol, the once dominating TV show, has dropped in the ratings this year, the last three contestants certainly give reason to watch; after Jason Castro was mercifully sent home this week, there remained three candidates for the next American Idol that are certainly worthy: David Archuleta, David Cook, and Syesha Mercado. Personally, I love Syesha, she has such a bubbly personality and a killer voice, but alas, as you will see with the odds, her chances of winning are not so good:

DAVID ARCHULETA +125
DAVID COOK -155
SYESHA MERCADO +1800

This is a bit of a switch in the betting odds than what has happened over the majority of the season; even since the beginning of the top 24, Archuleta has been one of the odds-on favorites since the season started. Now that Cook has overtaken him as the favorite, it has to beg the question: Why? Well, to be honest with you, watching the show for several years, to me it seems like the public has finally embraced a rocker, unlike what happened with Season 5 contestant Chris Daughtry who was given an exit in the final four--and promptly went on to sell more records than any contestant from Idol had ever done. Perhaps.
